The true purpose of arts education is not necessarily to create professional artists. It is to create more complete human beings who are critical thinkers, have curious minds, and can lead productive lives. The Education + Outreach Department of Underscore is committed to deepening connections to live theater for all audiences in the Pittsburgh community.
No prior theater experience is required for a student to participate in any of our classes or programming, but a love of theater is encouraged!
Underscore strives to reflect and celebrate diversity in our programming, artists, audience, board, partners, students, and staff. We are committed to producing work and creating environments that embrace the full breadth and beauty of our shared humanity. We are dedicated to making a welcoming and accessible space for people of any identity, background, or ability; including but not limited to: race, ethnicity, nationality or immigration status, gender identity/expression, sexual orientation, religion, age, physical/mental ability, appearance, socio-economic status, education level, and political viewpoint.

EDUCATION + OUTREACH
ABOUT OUR EDUCATION + OUTREACH DEPT.
We believe that a great arts experience doesn’t begin or end at the theater door.
Through affordable tickets to Underscore productions, theater skill-building workshops and classes, project-based partnerships, public dialogue, and more, Underscore is deepening connections to live theater for audiences of all ages in our community.
Stay tuned for some exciting announcements about our 2022 education programs!
